Artist Kate Jenkins’ knitted treats look good enough to eat

Brighton based textile artist Kate Jenkins has been recreating vegetables, cakes and other favourites foods in wool for the last 12 years.

Since learning to knit and crochet when she was 8 years old, she turned to reinventing food in wool after a successful career as a knitwear designer.

For her first exhibition, ‘Comfort Food’, Kate created a small exhibition in her shop in Brighton based on the nation’s favourite foods. This comprised of plates of classic British dishes including Bangers and Mash, Fish & Chips, Sardines on Toast.

Its success gave her the confidence to launch herself as an artist, and she has since exhibited in London and New York.

Her most recent installation ‘Kate’s Bakes’ was launched at the The Hand Made Festival, Barcelona and comprises of a beautifully detailed knitted and crocheted bakery complete with knitted sour dough breads, baguettes, croissants, bagels and patisserie cakes.
