Charli XCX, vegan fast food and Pose: Top 10 with illustrator Jack Oliver Coles

26.07.19

Welcome to the first of our brand new series, Top 10, a weekly quick fire interview with some of our favourite creatives.

Today, for our first instalment, we spoke to illustrator Jack Oliver Coles. Jack is a queer illustrator based in Newport, Wales who is exclusively represented by Bright Agency. He graduated from Cardiff School of Art and Design in 2016 and works with coloured pencil to create illustrations that are fun, cheeky and sensitive.

Here is his top 10:

My favourite place to be is
At home

My favourite object is
Probably my A3 scanner, it just makes life so much easier.

The last exhibition I visited was
The New Blood Festival 2019 but on the same day I also visited the Masters Degree show at Camberwell College of Art and the World Illustration Awards.

I’m currently reading
I’m currently not reading anything. I find it really hard to get into a book and as a result most of the books I own are children’s books because I like the illustrations.

I’m currently watching
Way too much television but most recently I’ve finally gotten around to starting Pose which is incredible.

I’m currently listening to
Charli XCX a lot. Catchy pop music is my weakness.

My favourite Instagram account is
Currently @aorists

The last restaurant I went to was
A place called Greasy Vegan in Cardiff.

My dream project would be
A collaboration with a fashion brand; whether that was my work being used on clothing or creating work to go in a store or something.

My favourite thing about my job is
The freedom it affords me and the fact that I’m able to make a living doing something that I love.
